If any good thing has happened to Indian Muslims after the Indian independence, that is the rise of Indian politician Asaduddin Owaisi. This Muslim leader had to rise, and this didn’t happen just like that. The worsening situation of Muslims in political and social arena was the trigger that gave us Asaduddin Owaisi.
This 47-year-old Muslim politician from Hyderabad is, in fact, is the only answer to the fire-brand Hindu leaders like Subramanian Swami, Praveen Togadia, Yogi Adityanath, Raj Thackeray, Sakshi Maharaj, Mohan Bhagwat and many more.
Well, Owaisi is not just the answer or the one who just answers, he questions too. He perhaps is the only leader who has raised his voice against the atrocities on Muslims; perhaps the only leader who dared to ask the reservation for down-trodden Muslims; he perhaps is the only leader who DOESN’T FEAR to speak for Muslims for their common rights.
Asaduddin Owaisi has given the Indian Muslims the biggest weapon: HOPE.
Now Muslims are more aware of their social, political and economical condition than they were before. Indian Muslims cannot and should not expect Asaduddin Owaisi to change their all political, social and economical conditions; he certainly cannot do this alone. But he certainly can do it by filling the ray of hopes among the Indian Muslims.
It is a misconception that most Muslims don’t like Asaduddin Owaisi and his politics; it would be like saying that most Hindus don’t like Politics of Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat. Muslims, out of fear, certainly express their resentment with Asaduddin Owaisi, and he is here to break the same fear. This is the same fear Muslims have been living under since the independence. He is here to teach them not to fear.
In the Indian political arena, Asaduddin Owaisi is nothing more than a VOICE. He doesn’t lead huge masses across the country, he doesn’t have the huge political mandate; all he has is a VOICE. A voice Muslims have been longing for since ages.
He calls himself ‘gali ka leader’ (a leader of ghettos), and he certainly is, as he is being heard mostly in Muslims ghettos. Muslims youth are being inspired by him, and this can be seen on social media. He doesn’t have his party’s offices in Bihar, Utter Pradesh and Assam but his party’s flag, his photos and his quotes are there on the Facebook pages of Muslims youngsters.
He is not a sympathizer of Pakistan and terrorism; he talks about nationalism and warns Indian Muslims to stay away from terrorism. He teaches India belongs to Muslims as equally as it belongs to Hindus. He believes in a secular country, and he wants to keep India a secular country. And this is why he and his party (AIMIM) have supports from Muslims as well as the downtrodden Hindu community (popularly known as Dalits).
With the rise of Asaduddin Owaisi one can hope that Muslims do not need controversial Muslim leaders like Laloo Prasad, Mulayam Singh or Sonia Gandhi, but they need a true Muslim leader who can speak for their rights without fear.
